Indians prefer to buy APUs over CPUs and GPUs: AMD France
[ad_1]
AMD is one of the world’s leading CPU and GPU manufacturers. The company has a broad portfolio of solutions to meet entry-level to high-end IT requirements. We recently had the chance to interact with Mr. Srinivas M Reddy, Country Head – Channel Sales & Distribution, AMD India regarding the PC gaming landscape in India.
Mr. Srinivas shared some interesting information about the Indian DIY PC market, the gaming community and what we can expect from future AMD products. According to his answers, Indians prefer to buy an APU rather than a CPU and a GPU for multiple reasons. This story has a lot more interesting information about AMD’s Indian PC gaming community.
1. How do you see the current landscape of PC gaming evolving?
India has one of the youngest populations in the world, and that translates into one of the youngest player populations as well. Lockdowns and home restrictions over the past year and a half have increased the way we use technology to live, work, play and communicate, and the gaming surge is no exception.
Gaming is at the heart of AMD’s story of innovation and growth, and the India region is an important part of that journey. We have already seen the demand for gaming laptops and DIY PCs increase in 2020 due to the pandemic and this trend continued in 2021, with games being an incredible way for people to stay connected and be entertained. .
We’re finding that more and more gamers are demanding more performance from their hardware, with more bezels, more pixels, and more immersive experiences that users expect. With new gaming hardware and upgrades available for the PC, both pre-built and OEM, not to mention other platforms such as consoles, the gaming industry is on a path of strong growth. .
AMD is a leading gaming solution provider in the industry offering CPU and GPU architectures on these platforms to help enable and strengthen PC gaming in 2021 and beyond.
2. What are the key factors that generate interest in DIY PC games? Could you share some information on the demographics behind this trend in India?
Through a survey conducted by AMD last year, we found that almost every household in India has a player of some type. Interest in the DIY PC segment is largely contributed by teens and young adults.
This is a demanding segment that not only buys various PC components online but also often learns how to build PCs by watching YouTube tutorials and reading various blogs. Whether it’s AAA games or esports, gamers generally demand the best technology for their enjoyment, or in some cases, as a competitive edge in esports.
In addition to traditional gamers, many media professionals, as well as content creators who have started working from home, need high-end hardware. These people are more likely to be between the ages of 25 and 40 and tend to purchase their products online and have their components delivered to their homes.
While the majority of the DIY market is dominated by gamers looking for mid to high-end graphics cards, there is an entry-level segment dominated by accelerated processing units (APUs).
In India, we’ve seen consumers prefer to buy an APU over a discrete processor or GPU for reasons of cost, power, or form factor. APUs, while considered an entry level for basic user graphics needs, actually provide users with a good gaming experience thanks to AMD’s innovation and graphics legacy.
In the general DIY market, the premium category is dominated by gamers. AMD’s goal is to provide a compelling product line for our end users who want to create a scalable system that allows them to experience incredible power and performance within their budget or usage needs.
3. What is AMD’s value proposition for DIY enthusiasts?
We have strengthened our offering in the DIY segment of the Indian gaming market, with AMD remaining the only company to offer both state-of-the-art processors and GPUs, with our award-winning Ryzen 5000 Series processors and Radeon RX 6000 GPUs offering convincing solutions. for DIY enthusiasts.
Ryzen 5000 series processors introduced the latest “Zen 3” architecture for excellent mono, multithreaded and gaming performance and combine well with our latest Radeon RX 6000 GPUs powered by AMD RDNAMT 2 architectures. Both are made on our advanced 7nm efficient processing technology and have been a huge success, and demand for these series remains strong since their launch.
In recent months, we’ve announced new products for the Gamer and Content Creator segments. This includes the AMD Ryzen 5000G series desktop APUs which combine the power of “Zen 3” with Radeon graphics performance integrated into a single chip.
In addition to these, individually we bring functionality beyond hardware to the ecosystem with exclusive features that add to the performance, capabilities and experiences they offer. As an example, we have AMD Smart Access Memory technology, offering performance contributions with the right combination of AMD processor and graphics card.
Recently, we also unveiled AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), an advanced spatial scaling technology designed to increase frame rates to deliver a high-resolution, high-quality gaming experience.
Given the demand for high-performance and incredibly powerful technologies needed to power this industry, AMD is constantly looking for ways to introduce features and capabilities that enhance the competitive gaming experience.
Gamers have enjoyed AMD’s offerings in the segment, and we’ll continue to push the boundaries for gamers and creators with a top-to-bottom stack of products and technologies.
4. What opportunities does AMD anticipate for the coming year?
At AMD, we innovate constantly and in a competitive landscape – this is both needed and expected by our partners and customers. With the launch of the âZen 3â and AMD RDNA 2 architectures last year, we continued to deliver industry-leading compute performance across all platforms.
We anticipate that the appetite for computing capabilities will continue to grow and that the next generation architectures already in development will continue to have a very exciting roadmap.
We are also committed to using the best manufacturing technology and plan to deliver next generation products on even more advanced process nodes to continue to achieve higher levels of performance and efficiency. We’re also constantly adding new features designed to give our gaming customers the best experience.
Longer term, we see significant opportunities for our high performance computer and graphics technology to address the most interesting technology applications in multiple fields, including games. However, it requires more computation and better visual skills, and no one is better positioned than AMD to lead these developments in the PC gaming segment.
This is reflected in our holistic approach to advancing the gaming experience, with top-to-bottom stacks of Ryzen and Radeon products paired with advanced technologies like AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution.
AMD’s success is based on delivering a consistent rate of cutting-edge products. With that, I would like to conclude by assuring our valued DIY PC gamers and enthusiasts that at AMD, we are constantly increasing our R&D investments and aggressively driving our roadmaps to continue to set the pace of innovation for the industry.
